A significant part of our preparation for selective entry into senior school for our Year 6 children is helping them prepare for and practise for an interview.  Most of the independent senior schools interview as part of the assessment process and we welcome this opportunity for the children’s personality to shine through.

As a new experience, it can be daunting to speak one-on-one with an unfamiliar adult, and as more and more schools have moved this part of the process online, as a COVID precaution,  it’s likely that Year 6 will this year have the additional challenges of conducting their interviews virtually.  We therefore took a new approach, reaching out to parents to be mock interviewers and carrying out the meetings via Teams.  The first set of interviews took place this week with five of our parents volunteering to play the role of the interviewer and put Year 6 through their paces with a range of questions about themselves, their interests and their opinions.  All of the children will get another chance to be interviewed in the next few weeks.

Year 6 did themselves proud, conducting themselves politely and enthusiastically in all cases.  Mrs Sarah Nunn, Deputy Head (Academic) was delighted with the way this new initiative went and received positive feedback from the parents involved.
