World Book Day 2024 has been a buzz at Banstead Prep!

School was full of excitement as children and staff arrived in costumes from a variety of plays, shows and musicals to reflect our chosen theme this year of plays and theatre, with a focus on William Shakespeare.

Mrs Dziedziela, Subject Leader of English and Drama started the day with a whole-school assembly to introduce the theme and plan for the day ahead.  The hall was a sea of colour and characters as everyone admired each other’s costumes and talked about who they had come dressed as, especially as it was announced that there would be commendations awarded for effort and creativity!

One of the highlights of our day was theatre company ‘Shakespeare 4 Kidz’ visiting to provide workshops on ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ for children in Reception – Year 4 and ‘Macbeth’ for children in Years 5 – 6. The company’s remit is to bring Shakespeare to life for young people, making his plays accessible and engaging for all.  The children were able to not only learn about the plays, but also watch a performance and even take part!

When they weren’t in a workshop, children in all year groups enjoyed a range of other reading related activities during the morning, included shared reading sessions where classes paired up for older children to read to younger ones.

There are numerous competitions that we have encouraged children to enter on the World Book Day website: Competitions (worldbookday.com) – competitions are still open until various dates towards the end of March for anyone who would like to take part.
