We are so proud of Caitlyn, who has spent the last two weekends performing very successfully at the 90th Sutton Music Festival. She’s even put her writing skills to good use by sending us the details of her efforts:

On 11 and 12 November 2023, Caitlyn played violin in 3 separate Strings classes: novice – Carribean Moonlight; under 9 years – What shall with the Drunken Sailor?; and grade 1 – Ode to Joy.  It was Caitlyn’s first festival playing violin, and it was very daunting playing in classes with other children who were performing grade 5 pieces when she’s only now preparing for grade 1.  Despite this, Caitlyn played wonderfully and gained 3 distinctions and first place (gold medal) in the grade 1 class!

The following weekend on 18 November 2023, Caitlyn played flute in 3 Woodwind classes: under 9 years – Slave Dance; novice – Ecossaise; and grades 1 & 2 – Blue Ridge Mountain.  Once again, she was playing with children at much higher grades and was one of the few flutes.  Caitlyn was delightedly proud to be awarded 2 distinctions and one very good, first in class (gold medal) in the novice class and joint first in class (gold medal) in the grades 1 & 2 class!

Caitlyn said, “I’m so glad I entered the festival, and I did even better than I thought I would.  Now I need to focus on different pieces because next weekend I sit my Trinity grade 1 flute exam.  It has been a very musical November!”
