What a wonderful start to the new school year –  I am feeling very proud. Well done to all the children for settling in so well, especially those for whom Wednesday was their very first day at BPS. It has been lovely seeing all our families this week and I must congratulate everyone on the calm and positive approach to the end of summer and start of the school year, you should all be feeling very proud of how well this week has been managed.

Our whole school ambition this year is “collective pride”. We are encouraging every single person in our community to play their part and my motivation for this is very simple, I feel we have an enormous amount to be proud of at BPS and I want us to shout it from the rooftops! Celebrating and acknowledging our achievements is very important and we have perhaps been a bit modest in recent times.  There is of course the other dimension to this – I am encouraging us all to take even greater pride in what we do, how we do it and the impact we can make. Some of the key challenges I put to staff and children this week are:

  • Pride in our school
  • Pride in our behaviour
  • Pride in our learning
  • Pride in our achievements
  • Proud of our friends
  • Proud of ourselves

Looking ahead to a year in which we can demonstrate these things is exciting and it was lovely to be able to show and thank everyone for our amazing new play structure on Thursday evening. The children will put it through its paces from Monday and it is a wonderful reminder of a superb collective effort and something of which our whole community should be proud.

I would like to say a huge thank you to our site team  who have worked incredibly hard over the summer and the start of term to get the school ready and looking so good. Finally thank you to the staff for playing their very significant part in this but most importantly for welcoming back the children and helping them settle so quickly.
