Children and staff came together virtually for an exciting assembly with our new Headteacher, Mr Jon Chesworth this morning.  He is pictured here leading the assembly from home with Buddy, who came from Battersea Cats and Dogs Home to live with Mr Chesworth and his family just three weeks ago.

Our Pupil Parliament had worked hard to collect questions from their class that they could pose to Mr Chesworth. Each member of the Pupil Parliament had the chance to ask their carefully chosen question on behalf of their class over a video call. The children came up with excellent questions including ‘Did you learn anything about yourself during lockdown?’ and ‘What level did you get to when playing Rugby?’.

Mr Chesworth tackled the questions very well and we learnt that he loves food, especially Asian dishes. He has experimented with BBQ food and invented a Lockdown Burger with his family. We also found out that he has chosen to work at Banstead Prep because of its beautiful facilities and friendly staff. For the question ‘What are you going to bring to the school?’, he answered ‘I will bring energy, positivity and gratitude.’ He also reassured everyone that he is thinking long-term and would like to stay as Headteacher at Banstead Prep for a long time.

The children were also curious ‘What would Mr Chesworth improve at Banstead Prep?’. Mr Chesworth wanted to hear the children’s views first, therefore he set up a challenge for them. He asked them to think about the following questions ‘What is the best thing about Banstead Prep?’ and ‘What would you introduce or change in the school?’. He specifically asked the children to think about something realistic and achievable that they will discuss at their next assembly.

This assembly provided a great opportunity for everyone to get to know our new Headteacher better. We are looking forward to welcoming him to school in the New Year!
