Last Friday, Banstead Prep celebrated the European Day of Languages (Saturday 26 September).  What better way to celebrate on a school day than by incorporating language learning across the curriculum!

Year 2 actively participated in many online sessions that Lingotot offered online. They learnt some magical vocabulary in French using the well-known Harry Potter stories. Their favourite new word was magic wand – une baguette magique! Later in the day, they learnt some of the colours in Spanish using the Minecraft characters. Finally, they learnt some words for members of the family in Arabic and finished the day singing (or listening to!) heads, shoulders knees and toes in Chinese!

Miss Burke said ‘The European Day of Languages aims to promote the rich, linguistic diversity of Europe and raise awareness of the importance of lifelong language learning for everyone. Raising the profile of languages is something I am keen to do. Learning a language not only broadens your mind but grows it too. Did you know that if you continue learning a language into your later stages of life it can help to delay the onset of dementia?’
