Six children from Banstead Prep took part in United Learning’s StorySLAM competition on Tuesday.  This event is organised for Year 5 and 6 children who have written their own short stories that should last no longer than 3 minutes.  Their stories are then performed to an audience and judges and three winners are announced.

During the Southern Regional Finals, the children took part in a story-writing and performance workshop prior to reading their story. ‘I really enjoyed learning new writing techniques during the morning workshops.’ – said Maddy. Our finalist was Freya, who went on to win Best Line with her story ‘The Mirror.’  The judges were incredibly impressed with her use of language in this particular line,’Crestfallen tears roll down her melancholy cheeks’.

Freya said: ‘It was really exciting when they called my name out to say I’d won ‘Best Line’.  It was a very interesting learning experience.’
