We are delighted and extremely proud to announce that five boys in Year 6 at Banstead Prep School, Henry S, Jack Y, Jack H, Laurie and Roberto, successfully trialled for the South East of England Prep School Football team.

They will now have the amazing opportunity to travel to Sweden for the Gothia World Cup. This tournament is an amazing, once in a lifetime experience, attending by teams from 90 different countries, where the Olympic-style opening ceremony will be attended by over 52,000 people.  Prior to that, they will attend a training camp in the Easter holidays so that the teams can train together and prepare for the tournament ahead of the trip to Sweden.

Banstead Prep Almunus Will Lumbard (pictured here in his world cup kit) and his parents were also fortunate to experience this wonderful opportunity last year:  “Gothia was a fun and enjoyable experience for Will, his first overseas sports tour.  He really enjoyed the Easter training camp, as well as the 8 days in sunny Gothenburg itself. Seeing him parade around the stadium in front of 50,000 plus spectators at the opening ceremony will live long in the memory.’

Will was equally full of praise. “It was a great tour and tournament, and I was really pleased to have a top coach. We played teams from different countries, such as the USA, Sweden and Palestine. The highlight though was beating São Paulo from Brazil (3-2) to reach the Quarter Final.’

We wish all of the boys the very best of luck – this is sure to be an experience that creates life-long memories.
