A new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) club started in early January at Banstead Prep School, run in association with Crest Awards, a scheme created by the British Science Association.

Children are working towards the award by participating in activities such as making toothpaste and designing rockets.  Wind-up toys was the project for the first session and we soon discovered that this task required our problem solving skills. Pupils in years 5 and 6 considered ways to help the toys move along swiftly and the effectiveness of different designs. They are hoping to race their creations in the coming weeks.

Next time the children designed bridges using only 5 pieces of A4 paper and a little glue/tape. We tested the bridges to discover which ones held the most weight. A really fun and enlightening afternoon!
