It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back after the half-term break. As always, it has been lovely hearing about the children’s adventures and activities, both near and far.
This week, we have been focusing on one of our school beliefs, “Be Ready.” Together, the children explored what it means to be ready to learn, ready to listen and ready to embrace new opportunities. Whether trying a new sport, joining a club, choosing a different reading book or tackling a challenge in the classroom, having an open mind and a positive attitude helps us all to grow and develop.
With Bonfire Night approaching, children have enjoyed activities inspired by fireworks, exploring colour, creativity and, importantly, how to stay safe during celebrations. We have also been reflecting on the significance of Remembrance. Discussions have also included the important role played by animals, such as horses, dogs and pigeons, in supporting wartime efforts, and the meaning behind the purple poppy, which recognises the contribution of animals in war.
Many of our children will remember Gary from our kitchen team. Gary is a veteran and together with his wife, has created a series of stunning handmade poppy displays for the local community. Their remarkable work can be seen around Banstead, with the centrepiece display proudly featured at the Banstead War Memorial. We are delighted to share photographs of their incredible creations and celebrate the dedication, craftsmanship and spirit of remembrance they represent.
We also recognised and celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, this week. We would like to wish all members of our school community celebrating this special occasion a joyful, peaceful and prosperous Diwali.
As we move through this important time of reflection and celebration, we are reminded of the value of community, kindness and respect for others, qualities that continue to shine brightly throughout our school.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
