The Beautiful Game – Head’s Desk (02 October 2026)

We have just enjoyed our first whole school celebration assembly, and it was an incredibly impressive demonstration of just how much our children are achieving across our wide curriculum. It began with Mr Jeens congratulating the children who over the summer took on the Doodle Challenge. We encourage children to use Doodle as a brilliant way to top up their English and maths skills – and these children have taken this to an impressive level outside of school!

Next, we celebrated our Excellence in English winners from each year group. Mrs Dziedziela was blown away by the quality of writing across the school and it was fantastic seeing the progress and quality expand as we moved from Reception all the way up to Year 6, showing what an amazing journey our children go on during their BPS education.

We then had a very sizeable celebration of sport, which is testament to the amazing quantity and quality of athletic opportunity Mr Jones and Miss Hooper provide for the children. We were entertained by an enthralling recap of the Year 3 and 4 football teams’ exploits from last weekend as they marched to victory, winning the Caterham Cup for the first time. Huge congratulations to the whole team; Matty, Henry, Clark, Jaimin, Evie, Tino and Dylan. Very excitingly, Tino, Evie and Henry have been invited to attend some training and trials with Crystal Palace coaches who were officiating the event! We are very proud of you all.

We continued to celebrate netball, swimming, football and cross country. Our swim squad picked up exactly where they left off last year, securing their first gala victory of the season against Chinthurst.

House Cross Country was a fantastic event, with many impressive individual performances celebrated in assembly this morning. Congratulations to Dursley House, who were crowned overall champions. We now look ahead to the next challenge, as our cross-country team heads to Epsom College on 16 October. Good luck to all those taking part!

What stood out most throughout the assembly was the enthusiasm, determination and willingness of our children to embrace every opportunity available to them. Whether excelling academically, representing the school in sport, or challenging themselves to achieve something new, they continue to demonstrate the values that make our school community so special. It was a wonderful way to begin the term and we look forward to celebrating many more successes in the weeks ahead.

Have a great weekend.
