Last week, Year 5 went to visit Condover Hall in Shropshire for four days. We went to visit some historical places and participate in fun outdoor activities.
On our journey there we visited Warwick Castle and watched a bird show. Sophia said that ‘when I raised my hand the bird swooped down and nearly crashed into it’ It was an amazing experience to see the birds flying so close to our heads.’ We liked exploring the castle and seeing the different exhibitions which focussed on different ages and periods of time. It was a fun way to learn about history.
Later in the week, we got to visit a living museum: Blist Hill. Here we stepped back in time to the early 1900’s. We were given old-fashioned money and got to make internal printing designs. All the shops and buildings were designed exactly for that period. We got to buy sweets and visit the fun fair. Toby particularly enjoyed learning about the history of ‘jelly babies’.
At Condover Hall, we got to lots of extraordinary activities such as fencing, trapezium and a zip line. We particularly liked the trapezium as when we got to the green plaque, which was standing 10 feet above the ground, you had to jump a 1 metre distance to reach the bar – it was very exciting and hard! We were actually impressed by how nice the hall was and how much sleep we got there.
On our last day we went to the RAF Museum. We got to see full-sized models of 20th century planes and civil war tanks. We all learned about the Cold War and the war between the Soviet Union and the USA.
Overall it was an amazing trip and we are now even more excited for our Year 6 adventure!
