Joining at Year 3 is a wonderful chance for children to step into our vibrant community at an exciting stage in their learning.

We’re proud to celebrate the individuality of every child. With tailored teaching that sparks interest and encourages a “have-a-go” mindset, we help children aim high, dream big and enjoy the journey along the way.

Our excellent facilities and broad, forward-thinking curriculum give children countless opportunities to explore new skills, build strong foundations and stretch themselves academically. By the end of each key stage, more than twice as many Banstead Prep children achieve Greater Depth than the national benchmark — a reflection of their enthusiasm, hard work and the support around them.

At 11+, our children move on to a wide range of selective independent and grammar schools, as well as local state secondary schools. We aren’t a feeder for any senior school; instead, we work closely with families to identify options that feel both aspirational and right for each child. Preparation is woven naturally into our curriculum so that, when the time comes, every child leaves us feeling confident, ready and excited for the next step.

Year 3 Admissions process

Children applying for Year 3 entry are invited to join us for a taster day, where they will join the current cohort of their age. Taster Days are designed to feel enjoyable and welcoming — a chance for us to get to know your child, understand their strengths and potential, and for them to get a real feel for Banstead Prep. They’ll take part in lessons, meet new friends, and experience our warm, supportive atmosphere firsthand.

Outstanding 11+ Success

We are immensely proud of our Year 6 children and their achievements. Last year:

Out of 24 children, 20 chose to sit selective senior school entrance tests.

Together, they secured an impressive 48 offers.

They were awarded a record 23 scholarships, including 15 for academic excellence.

This range reflects our commitment to finding the right next step for every child. Banstead Prep isn’t a feeder for any particular senior school; instead, we work closely with families to identify choices that feel both aspirational and right for their child. Year 3 Admissions FAQs for Parents

What age is Year 3 entry for?

Year 3 entry is for children aged 7+, typically joining at the start of the academic year in September.

Is Year 3 a main entry point?

Yes. Many families consider Year 3 the ideal joining point as it marks the start of Key Stage 2 and brings broader opportunities and specialist teaching.

What happens on the Year 3 taster day?

Children spend a full day in class with our current cohort, take part in lessons and meet the teachers. The aim is to create a relaxed and enjoyable experience, allowing us to get to know your child.

Is there an assessment for Year 3 entry?

We observe children during the taster day in a natural classroom setting, allowing us to understand how they approach learning. Any assessments are age-appropriate and integrated into normal class activities.

How do I apply?

Do you have places available for next September?

Yes, we have limited spaces to join the school in Year 3. Places are considered in order of registration and taster day visits.

Is there an application deadline?

There isn’t a formal application deadline, but places are allocated in the order that registration and taster days are completed. Most children start in September, though in-year admissions are possible if space allows.
