Today, we mark Remembrance Day, pausing at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to reflect and remember all those who have served — and continue to serve — in conflicts past and present.
A heartfelt thank you to all the children who took part in Sunday’s Remembrance events, whether marching locally, laying wreaths in Banstead, or representing their groups and communities elsewhere. Your participation shows great respect and understanding of the importance of remembrance — not only for those who gave their lives in the World Wars, but for all who have sacrificed so that others may live in peace.
Our thanks also go to Sarah Holmes for leading our Remembrance Day assembly on Friday, to the children who spoke so thoughtfully, and to Hugo for playing the Last Post so beautifully. Together, you have helped us reflect on the importance of history, empathy, and the value of peace.
On a personal note, with a husband, father, father-in-law, and three of my four grandparents having served, this time of year holds a special place. It reminds me how fortunate we are— and how vital it is to remember those who made that possible.
As we remember, may compassion and unity grow within us all.
Lest we forget.
