Ripples of kindness – Message from the Headteacher 15.11.24

We began our week by taking time to pause and reflect as part of Remembrance Day with a whole school assembly. Thank you to Fin for his superb performance of The Last Post and to Mila, Zach and Rosie for their beautiful reading during our school act of remembranceThis year’s theme celebrated inspiring moments of kindness that have shone through the darkness of war and conflict over the years. Our hope was that these stories would help our children consider their actions even more as we thought about Kindness at BPS.

Thank you to those children who supported the Banstead Village parade last Sunday, I was incredibly proud of how you conducted yourselves and for giving up your Sunday morning to support this special event.

Mrs Windett, our school pastoral lead had this to say about the week:

We want to take a moment to reflect on something profoundly vital – kindness. Kindness is contagious, and it’s something we all work towards cultivating in our school community together.

At the beginning of this week, we were excited to introduce a Kindness Tree activity that will run for the rest of the term. Picture this; a beautifully decorated tree hung with colourful leaves, each representing an act of kindness performed by students, teachers, and everyone in our school community. Whether it’s helping a classmate with finding something they have lost, complimenting someone or simply smiling at others, every act of kindness counts! Everyone is invited to contribute leaf to the tree, sharing kind acts to inspire others.

In today’s fast-paced world, where everyone seems rushed off their feet, we sometimes forget to pause and spread a bit of cheer. Kindness creates ripples; one small act can inspire another, turning into a chain reaction of goodwill. Whether it’s helping someone carry their groceries or simply offering a compliment, every little deed counts.

Imagine walking down the street and a stranger smiles at you, doesn’t that just brighten your day? That’s the power of kindness. It doesn’t cost a single penny, yet it has the incredible potential to uplift someone’s spirits. When we show kindness, we not only make others feel valued, but it also boosts our own happiness. It’s like a warm hug that you give and receive at the same time!

We want to create an environment where kindness blooms and being unkind simply doesn’t stand a chance. The concept of “paying kindness forward” is powerful. A small act of kindness can create a cascade effect, whether it’s helping a stranger, offering a compliment, or simply being there for someone in need, these actions can inspire others to do the same, leading to a wave of goodness that spreads far beyond the first gesture.  Celebrate kindness and fill our community with compassion and support. Kindness is the key to creating a happier world!”

In a week of inspirational kindnessI will leave you with the incredibly wise words of one of our Wellbeing Leaders, Marlowe.

Why kindness is important”

When you are kind to someone, you can make their day, week or even year! When you are kind to someone you will feel good about yourself, you will feel proud. Kindness is important because you never know what someone is going through, one smile can make their day.

Have a lovely weekend.
