George first started playing the cornet at age 11 with the Dobcross Silver Brass Band in the Northern Pennine area of Saddleworth.

In 1978 he joined the Army as a junior musician and after attending a pupils’ course at the Royal Military School Of Music Kneller Hall he studied trumpet under the tuition of John Wilbraham, and joined the Cheshire Regimental Band followed by the Band of Her Majesty’s Irish Guards.

In 2006, after 28 years’ service, George left the Army and became a peripatetic teacher in Surrey schools as well a free-lance trumpet player. He has recently performed the Haydn and Hummel Trumpet Concertos with the East Grinstead Symphony Orchestra, is a member of Martineau Brass, and plays soprano cornet with the Epsom And Ewell Brass Band.
