Supporting Your Child’s Transition to School

Starting Reception is a big milestone – for children and parents alike. At Banstead Prep, we believe children feel most ready for school when they are confident, curious and secure.

We warmly invite current Pre-School families and local parents of children starting Reception this September to join us for a friendly, informative parent evening focused on what ‘ready for Reception’ really means and how you can support your child through this important transition.

This event reflects our play-led Early Years ethos and is open to all families, whether or not you are considering Banstead Prep School.

What You’ll Gain from the Evening

This relaxed session is designed to leave parents feeling reassured, informed and confident.

You will:

Explore what school readiness really looks like beyond academics
Learn how routines, independence and emotional security support children starting Reception
Gain practical, play-based ideas you can use at home
Understand common worries children have about starting school – and how to respond
Hear how we support children through the Pre-School to Reception transition at Banstead Prep
Have the opportunity to ask questions in an open, supportive setting

The session will be led by our Head of Pre-Prep and Head of Early Years, who will share their experience, insight and approach to Early Years education.

A Thoughtful Transition into Reception

During the evening, we will also share how we prepare children for Reception at Banstead Prep, including:

Building independence and confidence through everyday routines
Supporting emotional wellbeing during transition
Gradual familiarity with the Reception environment
Play-based approaches to early phonics and mathematics

Our aim is to ensure children feel happy, confident and excited about starting school.

Who Is This Evening For?

This event is ideal for:

Parents of children currently in Pre-School
Families with children starting Reception this September
Parents who want practical reassurance around the transition to school
Local families who would value guidance grounded in EYFS best practice

You do not need to be considering Banstead Prep to attend – the focus is on supporting children wherever they are starting school.
