How do we develop the children’s curiosity?

Here’s what a Be Curious session looks like in Pre Prep:

The session provides children with multiple opportunities to delve deeper into topics they’re passionate about, whether it’s something they’ve learned about in class or a completely new subject that excites them.  This is often a time for children to drive their own learning and explore what fascinates them, fostering creativity and teamwork.  This is continued throughout the school, known as project based learning,

Our Be Curious sessions incorporate our commitment to Outdoor Learning and Nature Exploration, and will also include cooking activities, with the children visiting a variety of our onsite outdoor spaces, specialist facilities and, on some occasions, the children may go on walks near Banstead Woods. These activities will inspire curiosity and promote learning about nature, native plants, trees, and wildlife observation and allow children to learn more about the natural environment, further developing their connection to the world around them and the positive impact they can have on protecting our natural world.

At certain times in the school year, these sessions will focus on practicing for school concerts or shows, where children can develop their musical, drama, and performance skills. This helps them build confidence and creativity.

Overall, our Be Curious sessions are designed to develop our children’s learning skills and foster a better understanding of their own Metacognition.  The sessions nurture their curiosity, creativity, and well-being, allowing them to grow in a fun, interactive, often child-led, outdoor environment.  We believe this time is essential for fostering a love of learning and supporting children’s emotional health through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Here’s what a Be Curious session looks like in Prep:

As the children transition through the school our Be Curious sessions continue to shape the character of the pupils, fostering confidence, creativity and teamwork. We explore increasingly complex and independent ways to experiment with our knowledge, deepen our learning and problem-solve. Our Learner powers come to life in these sessions, and we create opportunities for imagination-driven learning where the children’s passions and interests can be showcased.

We continue to develop the skills of oracy across our broad curriculum, helping children enhance their communication skills. At certain times in the school year, these sessions will focus on practicing for school concerts or shows, where children can develop their musical, drama, and performance skills. We also develop presentation skills, and interview practice, giving children their voice. These experiences develop these essential skills, creating confident and articulate young people who make a very positive impact wherever they go.

When we combine these skills with excellent subject knowledge and a deep understanding of how we learn, metacognition we truly develop the whole child. Pupils develop fundamental self-awareness and the ability to self-reflect which builds confidence and self-esteem by understanding who we are and celebrating what we are good at!

We believe this time is essential for fostering a love of learning and supporting children’s emotional health through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
