Matt Ayling: Specialist Leader - Art

Having completed his BA Hons in Fine Art, Matt Ayling has designed and adapted an excellent Art & Design curriculum, which makes full use of the great space, facilities and resources available at Banstead Prep.

“I am excited to be a part of Banstead Prep School and enjoy delivering an exciting, experimental and inclusive Art & Design curriculum that inspires children, builds creative confidence and fosters a love of art."

Helen Abbott: Specialist Leader - French

Helen is passionate about teaching languages at primary level.  Having taught French and German at senior level in a range of schools, including nearby Woldingham School, she has an insightful knowledge of what needs to be taught at a younger level so that children have the right building blocks to develop their knowledge later on.  Helen also enjoys being involved in the music department at BPS.

“It is important to give children an understanding and love of other languages from a very young age so that it is something they will want to pursue when they are older.  There is an equal emphasis in my classroom on speaking and listening, reading and writing as well as grammar, but most importantly I believe that language learning should be fun and lively and give the learner a desire to learn more outside the classroom.”

Hayley Compton: Nursery Leader

Hayley has been working with Early Years children for her whole career and has experience of all the age ranges from 0-5 in a variety of different roles and settings. Qualifying as a Nursery Nurse in July 2000 and over the years working towards achieving her degree in Early Years Teaching and EYP status in 2007.

"I love my role as Nursery Leader at Banstead Prep and enjoy welcoming children and their families to our learning environment. It is important that both home and school work together to achieve the best start in the children's educational journey so that the children can thrive and be happy coming to school. In the Nursery, it is paramount for children to gain independence through learning and our supportive team enables the children to be confident and active learners."

Ed Jeens: Specialist Leader - Mathematics

Ed is a successful teacher who is passionate about mathematics. He enjoys bringing his experience in broadcasting and also audio engineering to the classroom as an opportunity to see the mathematics behind our daily lives. 

“I am delighted by what BPS offers its pupils, particularly in mathematics; from the wealth of resources to the excellent specialist staff, teaching and learning here is such fun."

Natasha Parsons: Specialist Leader - Music

Natasha is an experienced, passionate teacher, violinist and pianist who has taught music to children between the ages of two and eighteen, including GCSE and A-Level.

"The music department and co-curricular music programme at Banstead Prep School is vibrant, inclusive and caters for all styles of music-making. Music is central to the school's commitment to providing exceptional all-round opportunities for all pupils."

Stella Clark: Specialist Leader - Science

Stella is an experienced teacher with a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. In addition to a degree in Biology, Stella has also trained with the Royal Horticultural Society and brings her love of all things outdoors to Banstead Prep.

"The fantastic science facilities here at Banstead Prep enable a modern hands-on curriculum accessible for all pupils. I believe in nurturing children's curiosity about the world around them and am able to do this using our fully-equipped labs and beautiful grounds."

Angela Dziedziela: Specialist Leader - English and Drama / Curriculum

Since completing her MA in Theatre in Education in 2000, Angela has taught English and Drama to pupils ranging from 7 to 18 and led productions for several events including the Shakespeare Schools Festival. Angela has also helped enable pupils to achieve academic scholarships and secure places at schools of their first choice as part of the 11+ preparation.

"Communication is a fundamental skill for all pupils. At Banstead Prep we enable children to reach exceptional standards in writing, speaking and listening and performance."

Dr Liz Nissan: Specialist Leader - English / Reading, Language, Library and Cross Curriculum

Liz has taught across the primary age range, as well as at secondary and university levels.  She is excited by the prospect of fostering a love of reading and language throughout Banstead Prep in her role as an English Subject Specialist. Her varied career before settling on teaching included working as a researcher, writer and editor.

“As well as developing a love of reading and language for its own sake, the development of a high level of skill in reading, writing and speaking is so important for children’s future success, whatever direction they choose to take.”

Dr Clare Baines: Specialist Teacher - Maths

Clare has a Maths PhD and has worked in the primary sector for the past 14 years. She is passionate about teaching primary Maths as it is the beginning of every child's educational journey; it is where the enthusiasm for, and love of, Mathematics begins.

“I'm delighted to have joined BPS at the start of its journey and enjoy working with a wonderful team. This amazing site also offers so many opportunities for Active Maths!”

Gavin Jones: Sport and Boys’ Games

In his role as Head of Sport, Gavin oversees the planning and delivery of PE, Games, Swimming and Dance. He has experience leading successful departments that have seen boys and girls perform on the national stage and achieve sports scholarships.

Gavin is also the FunZone leader and is a key part of the holiday clubs’s success. He is passionate about Sport and believes in the ‘Sport for All’ philosophy and challenging all pupils to reach their potential.

Andrea Clarke: PE and Girls’ Games

As a secondary PE specialist, Andrea has vast experience at most sports across the secondary and primary school curriculum. Having trained as an athlete at Sutton and District Athletics Club, Andrea competed for Surrey in sprints and discus, as well as representing the school in the Netball, Hockey and Tennis teams. She continued her sporting career representing Northumbria University in Heptathlon and Cricket. She also trained the ball girls for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships for 10 years and is passionate about performance coaching and sporting excellence.

“I am excited to be able to bring out the best sporting performance in each individual child. With the facilities we have, Banstead Prep pupils will have the best environment to thrive and excel in their future sporting careers. I am looking forward to driving forward Sport at the school and putting Banstead Prep on the map for sporting success.”

Angharad Tharp: Pre-prep Sport and Swimming

Angharad is an experienced teacher of PE who has taught PE, games and swimming to ages 3-18, including GCSE and A-level PE. She is passionate about offering all pupils the opportunity to enjoy their sport. Angharad has previously played County standard netball and hockey at Club level.

“Our facilities are fantastic and we've planned a varied and exciting curriculum. This offers fantastic opportunities to all of our pupils to develop their fundamental skills and games confidence and more importantly a lifelong love of physical activity.”

Laura Grace: Specialist Leader - Computing and IT

Laura is a successful and dedicated class teacher who has experience in teaching both Key Stage 1 and 2. She is enjoying the new challenge of being a Year 2 Class Teacher alongside teaching Computer Science to Years 4-6. Laura is passionate about online safety and using technology to enhance and empower learners in the digital age.

“I have developed an exciting and engaging Computer Science Curriculum for Banstead Prep School, which I enjoy teaching alongside a vibrant and inspiring Year 2 class.”

Fiona Miles: SENCO, Specialist Learning Support and Specialist Cookery

Fiona is an experience primary teacher with a passion for inclusion and a wealth of knowledge in various special education needs. In her professional and voluntary capacity she works with children with additional needs and loves to see them thrive and develop. She recently completed a third of a Masters in Special Educational Needs, and a Diploma in Access Arrangements.

“My passion is to see children happy and secure so they can reach beyond their apparent potential. I feel it is vitally important to work in partnership with parents so that we as a school can support your child in the best way possible.”
